UK Affiliate Census 2009

[this is good]
My comment just got lost, here again:

The reason for this is pretty simple, only 20% of all affiliates who were asked need to pay for their traffic (PPC) and for the other affiliates the payment terms and frequency is actually only a question of trust. In the study itself there´re also other business models like media buying missing. Like PPC the payment frequency is for both of these business models very important, because the payment terms is not only a question of trust anymore, it´s a also a question of amortisation duration and opportunity costs. If a mediabuyer and semler doing a lot of revenues daily on Tradedoubler e.g. and is running out of money after 1 month because of the payment terms, you as a network are also loosing money, a lot of money (opportunity costs). Consequently the network is the only burden to let these affiliate expand their business much faster.

There´s also an interesting thing regarding the "cross network tracking" should be attached. If affiliate A and affiliate B dropped the same click cookie for the same merchant from two different networks, both transactions are tracked. If the merchant is managed by an agency the agency would most likely approve the transaction on the network which gives it the most kickbacks, if the merchant is managing the programme himself, in the most cases he doesn´t have a clue what affiliate hopping is and would most likely approve both transactions (although there´s only one transaction generated in the reality)...
